The Costume Party

Heeeeello there mates! well, my task today is to tell you about a piece of art that I like so let's begin immediately.

I must confess, I'm not an avid fan of art, but if I have the opportunity to see an exhibition or a gallery of art I usually choose to do it. I don't have many preferences, let's say I enjoy whatever I like so there isn't a specific criteria when I'm talking about art. For today, I'll tell you about this masterpiece:

This beauty is called 'Costume Party' and its painter is Guillermo Lorca García-Huidobro (funny that his name is similar to a very known poet), a young chilean artist that I found about in my days of laziness wandering in Facebook. It's just that sometimes, I like to see cool things in my facebook wall, so one day this beauty appeared in it, and I was like 'whoaa what dis' haha. I looked for the author and ta-dah, he was chilean and VERY talented, with really beautiful works that I liked almost immedately. As I said, I don't have specific parameters when it's about art, but I have always liked the use of human body in art, how the different artists could represent it and how close can they be of reality, so the fact that Guillermo Lorca used it in his works, along with animals (usually dogs -insert a big heart here-) to represent a child-ish, unconscious and very-well-hidden-in-human-nature nightmare in a mess of savage, crude and chaotic composition made me fell in love with his art.

I chose this one not because it's my favorite, since all of his works are awesome as hell, I chose this only because it was the first one that I saw of this class, and 'cause I think it has a little of every detail that the others have in big quantity. The Costume Party has animals, has meat and blood and the children sharing a moment that seems so pacific but at the same time seems so chaotic and wrong, like something that would be seen only in nightmares. Where the savage nature interacts with what is civilized and human touches wildness in a poetic way. You can feel the hunger, fear, violence and also, some kind of calmness in it and I think it's so powerful, so meaningful and deep that I can't think in other thing when I see this piece.

A plus that I can add is that he uses realistic techniques to create, with many details and vivid colors, so it's, like, a more 'tangible' feeling when you admire the paint.

I could say many other things about Guillermo Lorca's work, but I'd like for you to look more about this, and maybe (I hope) you'll like the way he uses art to represent that part of our nature that is so violent and savage.

Anyways, see you in another chapter of this trashy blog! Farewell my folk!

A boring photo

Heeeello there mates, in today's chapter I will talk about a photograph that I took. Well, I have to be honest, I'm not used to take lots of pictures and things, but when I used to have a camera (not anymore because it was stolen :'( ) I only took pictures of what I thought was pretty or to save a memory of an important moment, which was from time to time. So now I will use a picture I had in my flickr ( I don't use it anymore haha) and tell you about it.

This photo was taken 3 years ago when I thought I'd like photography (which ended up being something I'd do sometimes) and well, you can see that is a little in front of a building haha. This building is close to my aunt's apartment and where I currently live.

I remember taking the picture when we were like "opening" the apartment, which was, I think, one of my first time being in Santiago and I liked the view that the building gave us from the balcony. I could see the Entel Tower and many, maaaany other buildings from that height and one of these structures caught my attention.

You have to know there is a rule in some apartments, where curtains must have a crude or similar color to the one the building has (including mine) and, although I don't consider myself as a very colorful person, I thought that rule diminsh the interest to see the facade of the building (which is understandable, since they are not intended to be interesting, but you get my point haha). Anyways, you can see where I go from now. This building was different from those around him because it was smaller and wider and, besides that, the diversity of colors that it had thanks to the curtains the people choose to put. I liked it, I liked that it was different, I liked the colors and the feeling of the existence of different personality that each apartment could have. It made me think of all those stories that each color could hide behind them.

I know it's not something so special and everything, but when I was there and saw the building (I was playing with the camera so my reasons for taking the picture weren't that deep lol) I thought it deserved to be photographed 'cause of the mixing that crude colors with others that were brighter that could create a new facade.

Now I can no longer see the facade very well because they're building a new structure in front of it so :( but at least I'll keep this picture as a reminder of those times when there weren't so many buildings around me haha.

I have nothing more in mind so here's were I end this chapter . That's all folks!

My favorite place in Santiago

When I got asked to write about a special place for me in Santiago, in my mind came a lot of places ('cause Santiago is a very, veeeeery big city if you didn't notice haha), but I think the most significant one would be the Quinta Normal Park.

The Quinta Normal Park or 'la Quinta', as people usually call it, is located in the Quinta Normal ward, next to the subway with the same name and it's a reaaaaaally big place, like really big, so it contains a lot of these 'mini' places inside, like a lagoon, many museums, small parks and lots of trees with comfortable spaces to take a rest or to practice sports or anything related with a park of this
dimension.

My first time going to the park was this year, in March, when I had to make these 100 sketches of different places as a homework (I don't want to know of sketches for a long time thanks to this D:) and I got lost walking along through Matucana street, and I saw these big gates with many trees and banks and etc inside, so I thought that maybe it could be a good place to make this work. Anyways, the park came out as a very beautiful and calm place where I'd go anytime when I had to do homeworks like that because of the quantity of spaces you could find there.

The few times I had visited it I've gone alone, so besides of doing my homework, I also relax and try to disconnect of the hectic lifestyle you normally have in a city like Santiago. I walk, and walk, and walk, not taking any route as a specific one, just wandering around to see the people, to see the trees and admire the different kind of places you can find there, like the National Museum of Natural History, or the lagoon where you can rent a little boat and feed the ducks that live there.

Sadly and because of the little time that the University gives me, I haven't had the opportunity to visit the park again, so the last time I could go there was like a month ago and I'd really like to go there soon, just to reconnect with this beautiful place and enjoy its qualities again.

If you hadn't visited it, I highly recommend you to do it. RIGHT, NOW! Nah, but I'm sure you'd enjoy it as much as I did!

blahgging about an architect I like (?)

Welcome back to this trashy blog, in today's chapter I have to write about an architect of my liking so this won't be easy since I don't have a large knownledge 'bout the topic (funny 'cause I'm studying architecture hahaha) but whatever, I'll try to do my best.

For this topic I'll choose Borja Huidobro, a chilean architect (and painter too) known for winning the National Prize of Architecture in 1991.

Huidobro studied architecture in Chile but then moved to France in order to join to a french vanguardist group, so his work kind of started in projects he made there along with others architects.
His recognition as an architect came with the making of different works not only in France, in India, Spain and China too, like the Public Finance Department in Paris, known for being right next to the Sena river.

Other of his known works is the National Security  Consortium Department, which has become one of the most recognizible milestone in the Chilean architecture.

I saw this architect's work back when I was just getting to know the city, but I didn't know of his importance in the chilean architecture 'til my aunt, who is an architect too, metioned him to me when she had to make a project about his life's work and I found kind of atractive to show some of him to you, since he's from Chile and the last work I mentioned from him was really interesting, because of how he could mix in this curve-y and modernist structure with nature, which seems to be 'emerging' from inside of the building.

From what I know and have gathered about him, his teachers were other National Prize of Architecture winners and that his work were influenced by Roberto Matta and inspired the shape of modern machines like the wings of a plane, or the prow of a ship.

Anyways, if you want you can always search more about him, maybe you'll like his style and works!

about trash

Well to my world... enter if you dare... nah, just kiddin'.

(Idk what to put here 'cause my life isn't that interesting but I'll try... a bit.)

Name's Francisca Rivera, I'm 18 and I'm from Vallenar, Chile but I'm living in Santiago atm.
Currently I'm enduring studying architecture at the Univeristy of Chile (thank you captain obvious) but this wasn't my first option of career, in fact, I wasn't even sure about what to study 'til I had to decide this year so I'm still kinda unsure 'bout everything.

I don't have many hobbies but when I don't have toooooooooooooooo many homework and to-do projects (which is never) I enjoy reading things in English (don't ask!!!), being on Internet. sleeping a lot and watching tv series. My favorite books are Pet Sematary and the Lord of Flies and I enjoy different kinds of music but I'm usually listening to metal, industrial, rock and stuff.

I think that's all I have in mind now but I'll add a couple of unimportant things in case of
  • I'm really, like REALLY shy but when someone get to know me I'm pretty talkative so don't doubt on asking me anything!!!
  • I love animals.
  • Hannibal and Supernatural give me life.
  • This is too boring I'll stop now before I keep embarrassing myself.

THAT'S ALL FOLKS!
